Friday, September 14, 2007: Children's Hunger Fund and Dole Work to Distribute Nutrition Education Materials
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Last week Dole Food Company donated nearly ¼ million pieces of their information-packed nutrition focused publications to the Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF), an international charity. CHF is now including the materials within their Food Paks®, 20 lb. boxes of staple foods, which are delivered to the homes of needy families.
“We are very grateful that Dole has chosen to bring nutrition education to the poor through CHF’s programs,” said CHF President, Dave Phillips. “We desire to make lasting impacts in the lives of needy children across America and around the world. Nutrition education is one way to reduce the long-term problems plaguing children and families in impoverished situations.”
The Dole Nutrition Institute (DNI) aims to “Feed the World with Knowledge” through nutrition research and education. So when the opportunity arose to educate needy families through the work of one of America’s premiere charities, Dole responded immediately.
The donation includes Dole’s “Health & Wellness” brochure series and “What You Need to Eat Every Day & Why” in English and Spanish. For the children, “Dole’s 5-A-Day the Color Way” coloring books and bookmarks help kids focus on their own nutrition and to make good food choices in the future.
According to Monica Spiro, Dole’s Coordinator of Corporate Donations, “This is the beginning of a long-term relationship with CHF to meet the nutrition education needs of a segment of the population that currently lacks proper resources.”
Children’s Hunger Fund is recognized as one of the most cost-effective charities in America. Forbes.com lists CHF as holding 100% ratings in all 3 of their efficiency categories. More than 99% of revenue goes to programs serving needy children.
